Blood Drives, Food Bank, and First Responders: Post 157 Gives Back

Update from American Legion Post 157 in Electric City:

“We continue to assist with the monthly blood drive at our Post. We usually have 18 to 20 donors per month. The drive is done by Vitalant out of Spokane. They require an appointment for donation with an occasional walk-in accommodated.

“Our post continues to support the local food bank. In early July several members accomplished a demolition on the entry to the food bank cement apron. Forms were placed and arrangements were made for a concrete delivery. Bright and early one morning the cement was poured and formed into ramps in front of both doors. The ramps allow easier access into and out of the building with the carts of food for the recipients. Additionally these ramps will allow better access for handicapped individuals for the basement area. (Photos below)

“I received a call from a contact at the Moses Lake Home Depot. He offered 9 pallets of water for the firefighters in the area. We went to Moses Lake on Saturday the 17th and picked up 4 Pallets of water. Each pallet had 84-24 bottle cases on it, The pallets weighed in excess of 8000 pounds. We contacted the Nespelem Fire Fighters who told us they had just received 2 pallets and didn’t have a current need for any more. We brought the water back to the local firefighters who had been supporting the area firefighting efforts. We have 4 local agencies who said they would distribute the water throughout the area. On the following Tuesday we went back and got the remaining 5 pallets. In total we delivered 9 pallets with a total of 756 cases and well over 18000 pounds of water for the local firefighters and police officers.”
