Chelan and Douglas counties and the cities of East Wenatchee, Waterville, Chelan and Wenatchee came together Aug. 7 to honor local recipients of the Purple Heart. Families of the honorees joined us, as did veterans and leaders from around the community.
The 2025 Purple Heart recipients honored are:

- Vernon Zornes: U.S. Army, Vietnam War
- Paul Bradshaw: U.S. Army, Vietnam War
- Lee L. Bradshaw: U.S. Army, WWI
- Earl Paslay: U.S. Army, WWII
- Frank Telford: U.S. Army, WWII
- Robert Lee Paine: U.S. Navy, WWII
- Albert Jaspers: U.S. Army, WWII
- David Welch: U.S. Army, Vietnam War
- Bruce Burge: U.S. Marine Corps, Vietnam War
- Anthony “Tony” Montoya: U.S. Army, Vietnam War
- Ronald Hoffman: U.S. Army, Vietnam War
- Taylor Mayfield: U.S. Army, Korean War
- Delbert J. Betz: U.S. Army, WWII
“On this day, we remember not only the recipients of the Purple Heart but also the families who stood beside them, the comrades who fought alongside them, and the legacy of service that runs deep in our nation’s history,” said Tony Sandoval, who served as master of ceremony. “Let us carry forward their courage in our hearts—not just today, but every day we enjoy the freedom they fought to protect.”
