Riverway Flies Flags Over Rock Island for 4th of July

Extended Pump Trucks flying American Flags on hillsideDid you happen to see this display above Rock Island Road on the 4th of July weekend?

Just south of East Wenatchee along route 28 going towards Rock Island was a very unique sight.

3 concrete pumper trucks were lined up above the roadway, all adorned with American Flags flying in the wind.

After a bit of sleuthing, it was discovered that the Smith brothers, Dave and Dan, owners of Riverway Contractors, had set it up. A simple way they could show their American Pride and hopefully inspire those in our community.

Turns out it did just that. Once word got back to the American Legion Post 10 and VFW Post 3617 about who was responsible, it was immediately agreed upon that these organizations would recognize and honor community members and business owners who show their Patriotism.

And so, on July 15, in a very informal ceremony, Brad Pieratt (Commander, VFW 3617, left) and Dick Winn (Commander, Legion Post 10, right) presented Dan and Dave (center) with 2 certificates and a couple Challenge Coins to show appreciation for their public display of Patriotism.

The Smith brothers said they really liked the response they received from the community, and plan to do it bigger and better for Memorial Day next year. So keep your eyes peeled on the hills overlooking our Valley and River.
