News from The Bunker – Nov 2021

Renovations

Since our last report, the Bunker has undergone a complete redo of its physical layout. In addition to the creation of a new wall-mounted shelving for books, the floor has been scrapped and re-painted. What a different that made! Completely brightened up the place and made the other changes even more pronounced. The once cluttered, crowded, and uncomfortable feeling has been erased. There is now an open, spacious feeling. The large “T” shaped conference table(s) have been repainted and re-topped to further brighten the main room while at the same time providing a more usable meeting space.

Veterans Day

In addition to participating in the Veterans Day parade (in Wenatchee), the Bunker Crew also hosted a BBQ. Between 1130 and 1430 an estimated 60-75 people filled the Bunker to capacity. The Vets and their families enjoyed food and comradeship. Those who have “gone before” were remembered by those in attendance. Another successful Bunker event!

Food Locker

The Bunker Crew continues to gather and dispense food to Veterans and their families. The donations continue to come in. The community has been very supportive with their many and varied donations. The Bunker has purchased gift cards to enable Veterans to select their own holiday meal fare. Recent generous donations have made this continuing program possible.

Many Thanks

The Bunker receives donation from Central Washington Oral and Facial Surgery

The Bunker has been busy – providing assistance to Veterans and their families year-round is the reason for the Bunker’s existence, and that seems to be working. We thank the people and organizations that have made that happen. Special thanks go out to the following businesses and organizations:
Wenatchee Red Apple Flyers
Central Washington Oral and Facial Surgery
American Shoe Shop
Numerica Performing Arts Center
Anonymous MC

My personal thanks go out to the following individuals: Mark, Vic, Billie, Jose, Top, Trent, Larry, Doc, Don, Chip, Wayne, Dozer, Doug, and Ken. They and their significant others make the day-to-day operation of the Bunker possible. Their sacrifice of time, talent, and funds are deeply appreciated and without which the Bunker would not be successful.

Final Notes

The Bunker continues to support the Wenatchee Downtown Association (WDA) Heroes Banners Project through the purchase of individual banners. The Bunker is grateful for the continued support of the WDA as directed by Linda Haglund.

NEW HOURS: The Bunker has changed its hours of operation – we are now open 8am to Noon Monday through Saturday. All are welcome to stop by and enjoy a free cup of coffee and the comradeship which are the hallmarks of The Bunker.
