One of the requirements that members in Vet Corps must meet each year is to complete at least one major service project. This December, three of our local Vet Corps members joined forces to complete their service project, helping a veteran with a safety improvement at their home.
While working with Chelan County Veteran Service Officer Tony Sandoval, Ken Murtaugh explained that he repeatedly had issues with tripping on the uneven concrete outside his door. Tony spoke with Trent Mortensen, the Vet Corps member working in his office, to see if he’d be able to help Mr. Murtaugh out. Trent reached out to his fellow Vet Corps members in the area, Joe Garek at WVC and Jose Solis at Douglas County VSO, a plan was hatched, and arrangements were made.
On 11 Dec 2020, Trent, Joe, and Jose headed out to Mr. Murtaugh’s East Wenatchee home with supplies in hand to even out and expand the concrete walkway. After 5 hours of work, the task was completed, and the safety at Mr. Murtaugh’s home had been increased.
