Boys State Report from Max Nimz

Maxwell (Max) Nimz, a Chelan High School student, attended American Legion Boy’s State at Warm Beach Conference Center in Stanwood, Washington June 2019. The Manson American Legion Post 108 was his sponsor and covered all costs.

“Not only was this an amazing experience, it’s an impressive resume builder. Bill Clinton, Wesley Clark, Dick Cheney, Neil Armstrong, Jon Bon Jovi, and Michael Jordan are just a few of the famous men that attended Boys State in their youth. I was convinced this program was for me, I strongly encourage others to attend,” Max said.

After graduating from high school in June of 2020, Max received an appointment to attend the Military Academy at West Point, New York, a goal he set in his sophomore year. West Point’s mission is to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army.

Manson American Legion Chaplin and Boy’s State Coordinator, John Swenson, recently spoke with Max. “Max began his Plebe Year at West Point on July 1st, 2020. He stated he is doing well in his academics and he is a member of the Army Fencing Team.” This is a twelve-year commitment for Max with four years of school, five years of active duty and three years in the reserve. Max plans to make the military his career with an ultimate retirement date at age 60.
