Third Annual Supernova Business Launch Competition

This year the North Central Washington Economic Development District (NCWEDD) presents the third annual Supernova Business Launch Competition. I first talked about this competition back in 2020, as NCW Veterans Info was honored to be one of the original Sponsors of the event.

Supernova BLC is a competition committed to growing small businesses in NCW while overcoming barriers to employment. Barriers include but are not limited to veterans; people with disabilities; people without a high school diploma or GED; unemployed youth; justice-involved citizens; women and underrepresented minorities. The NCWEDD has partnered with organizations (such as NCW Veterans Info) throughout Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan and Ferry Counties as well as the Colville Confederated Tribes to assist the makers, dreamers, and entrepreneurs in creating solid business plans, learning valuable business skills, gathering resources and tools for success, and networking with the community. The top prize is an award of $10,000 to be used for advancing their business.

This year one of the Final Four is a local veteran-owned business, Dragontail Forge. You can learn more about bladesmith David Popovich as well as his competition by watching the videos on the Supernova website.

The Main event, where the Final Four will share more about themselves and their businesses before the winner is announced, is this coming Thursday, 22 Sept from 6-8pm at the Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretive Center in Entiat. No tickets or registration needed – just show up! It would be great to see the local veteran community come out to show their support for this enterprising business owner. Please plan to attend if you can! Best of luck David – we’re rooting for ya!
