Manufacturer Coupon Clipping for Distribution to our Troops

[taken from the September issue of American Legion Post 28‘s newsletter]

The Auxiliary collects and sends manufacturers coupons to overseas troops as a way of helping military families serving in foreign lands. These manufacturer’s coupons are accepted at commissaries and PXs overseas for up to 6 months after their printed expiration date, however it is best to collect and send coupons no more than 3 months past expiration. This extended expiration date helps counter the time spent finding, clipping, and mailing while still allowing the military families to reap the rewards.

Coupons are sorted (thanks to volunteers) by category to make it easier when sending them. Categories for sorting include:
– Baby (including toddlers)
– Beauty (cosmetics, hair dye, etc)
– Cleaning (including toilet paper, paper towels, and other cleaning agents)
– all Food
– Health (medicine, shampoo, tooth care, etc)
– anything for Pets
– Misc (everthing else, including batteries)

Coupons that state they are for use at a specific business, such as Safeway, Rite Aid, Papa Murphys, etc, are not considered Manufacturer’s Coupons and cannot be accepted – please read the fine print before dropping these sorts of coupons off.

[The Unit 28 Auxiliary] keeps careful track of where each package is sent so rotation is maintained to ensure all bases participating in the program receive assistance.

The Coupon Clipping Project is part of the Nation Security Program of the American Legion Auxiliary, so all the hours and money spent on the project (from clipping to sorting and mailing) are reported on the year-end National Service Report.

Anyone – Members and non-members alike – can drop off coupons and we’ll get them sorted and sent off. Thanks to everyone who has donated time and coupons already, keep up the great work.

I am the person who does this for our Auxiliary. To whom should I send our coupons to?

    1. You may want to reach out to the Auxiliary Unit 28 to find out where they send theirs and if they know of other locations still accepting coupons. Check with Jane Montaney [jmontaney @ yahoo .com] as she explained to me that not all of the previous bases are still in need.
